Fabric

Is there any fabrics you shouldn't use when making roman shades?

I was thinking of using damask or tapestry.

Just about any fabric can be used for a roman shade.

Just keep in mind that all fabrics act differently, and based on the style you want you may not want certain weights or textures.

For a classic, crisp pleated roman shade, you want fabric that creases easily between your fingers. When you're viewing your fabric, fold it and press it with your fingers. Does it fold and crease nicely? Perfect.

Now if you want a more lush, fuller look, you can interline your shade or use a heavier fabric. Keep in mind that your folds  will be thicker and softer.

And for a lighter, more elegant look, silk, sheers, even lace can be used. Any fabric unlined becomes a sheer. And if you interline silk you will have a wonderful thick, shimmery window treatment.

Tapestry is a very interesting treatment. Yes, you can use this. Just be sure you use hardware that can withstand the weight.

I hope this helps

Jen
