I am in the process of making Hobbled Roman Valances finished length 16", finished width 40"
My question relates to the instructions in the book regarding the placement of the pleats...
Your book calls for 12" measurements and 6" pleats. With a 16" valance I need 8" markings and 4" pleats...... I have some custom made valances like this (with these measurements) in another room and having thoroughly examined them felt I could manage this project. BUT all of the information, tapes with rings etc seem to be for the 6" pleats. So far the instructions in the Valance book as well as the Roman Shade book have not been very helpful to me. Help, help!
The instructions in the book show 6" as a rule of thumb. But you can easily modify this to what you need.
You'll discover that roman shade tape is availabe in 3" 5" and 7" spacing.
That doesn't work for you since you want 4" ring spacing.
But you can easily do this on your own. You need to make your own roman shade ring tape. Get some 1" wide twill tape, some sew on shade rings and sew your rings to your tape every 4".
Now if you can't find twill tape you can buy some roman shade ring tape... remove the rings and resew them at every 4".
As far as following the instructions, all else is the same.
You would measure 4" and mark for your first ring, then every 8" up your fabric for your other rings.
Keep in mind that you don't HAVE to do 4" just because your valance is 16". You can use 5" ring spacing and have 3 pleats instead of 4. Then create a simple flat valance to sit at the top to conceal the uneven pleat.
